What mattress cleaning service actually involves

Mattress cleaning uses a HEPA vacuum, an enzyme pre-treatment for body soil, hot-water extraction on both faces where the mattress allows, and a UV-C or steam pass to knock down dust mites and bacteria.

A mattress absorbs a surprising amount of perspiration every week per sleeper, and in Dhaka humidity very little of it evaporates back out. That moisture, plus the skin cells everyone sheds overnight, is exactly what dust mites feed on. A mattress that has never been cleaned in five years can hold a population large enough to be the real reason someone in the house wakes up congested every morning.

The visible signs are yellow-brown patches around the shoulders and hips, a faint stale smell when you strip the sheets, and dark spotting along the seams. Cleaning removes the food source and the mites together. For memory foam and any mattress that cannot be soaked, we use low-moisture extraction with a steam pass instead.

How the job runs

   Strip and inspect

   Bedding comes off, the mattress type is identified, and stains are mapped so the right pre-treatment is used on each.

   HEPA vacuum

   Slow passes across both faces and into every seam. This is where most of the mite and skin-cell load is removed.

   Enzyme treatment

   Protein-based soil — sweat, urine, blood — needs an enzyme rather than a detergent. It is applied and left to dwell.

   Extract or steam

   Spring mattresses get hot-water extraction. Memory foam and latex get a low-moisture method with a steam pass.

   Dry fully

   Blowers run until the core is dry. A mattress must never be remade while it is still damp.
