What floor polishing service actually involves

Floor polishing is a grinding process, not a wax job. Diamond pads of decreasing grit are worked across the stone in sequence, each one removing the scratch pattern left by the last, until the surface is flat and reflective. A crystallising agent or sealer is applied at the end to harden and protect it.

Marble and mosaic floors dull for a mechanical reason: grit tracked in on shoes is harder than the stone, and every footstep grinds microscopic scratches into the surface. Enough of them and the floor stops reflecting light evenly, which reads as dull. No cleaning product fixes this, because nothing is sitting on top of the stone — the stone itself has been abraded.

The repair is to remove a thin layer of stone and re-level the surface. We start at the grit that matches the damage, work up through the sequence, and finish with crystallisation, which reacts with the calcium in marble to form a harder, more reflective skin. Done correctly, a fifty-year-old mosaic floor in an old Dhaka building comes back remarkably well.

   Marble is crystallised with a chemical and steel wool under a weighted machine. Granite and mosaic are sealed instead.
